OUT NOVEMBER 3

“The dreamy electro-pop tune sounds both classic and futuristic, with a smooth mid-tempo groove, catchy horn lines and melodies, contemplative lyrics, and soulful vocals.” (Live For Live Music)

“Josh Schwartz is taking flight toward the sun, but unlike Icarus and his wax wings, JOSCH’s versatile talent and off-kilter creativity allow him to withstand the perils of its heat and bask in its light instead.” (Live For Live Music)

Nov. 3, 2023 –– Fresh off the impactful release of his debut single, “Icarus In Motion,” emerging Miami-based electro soul artist JOSCH (A.K.A. Josh Schwartz) looks to further showcase his musical palette with his second single “No Beginning, No Conclusion” out 11/3. Whereas “Icarus” featured hard-hitting drums and showcased Schwartz’s James Blake-esque ethereal vocals, “No Beginning” is a soulful, horn-laced stroll through existentialism and the mundanity of daily life that encapsulates nothing and everything. The soul pop song opens with chords that sound strange yet oddly familiar, full of wonder but with a touch of sadness, a theme continued lyrically throughout the song. Then the horns kick in with their laid-back melody over dreamy female vocals, setting the tone for what’s to come. The vocals are sung casually back and forth between Schwartz and female vocalist Danke. He observes, "Time flies,” to which Danke replies “Let it go.” So begin the understated musings of a stoney philosopher, a happily-detached observer of the bittersweet beauty of the world. The message culminates in the chorus: “Every time you feel confusion / free your mind of all illusion / close your eyes to see solution / no beginning, no conclusion.” Stream “No Beginning, No Conclusion” on Spotify HERE.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the concepts of time and the nature of reality. It’s so easy to get caught up in our own heads and take ourselves so seriously. Sometimes all you need is a slight consciousness adjustment and a walk outside on a sunny day to remind you how infinitely fascinating the universe is and how malleable our reality is,” muses Schwartz. “I knew Danke was just as into these kinds of heady concepts as I was, so I knew I had to have her sing with me on the track. Even though most of the vocals alternate between her and I conversationally, the lyrics themselves are a kind of stream-of-consciousness conversation between myself as subject and myself as observer.”

Originally conceived in Schwartz's home studio in the early days of the pandemic, "No Beginning" was a demo featuring Schwartz alone on vocals and most instruments. After getting Danke (who joined Schwartz in the early days of the band Turkuaz) to join in on vocals, Schwartz tapped trumpeter Chris Brouwers and saxophonist Greg Sanderson, both longtime bandmates with Schwartz in indie bands Turkuaz, Cool Cool Cool and The Horn Section, to add their jazzy touch to the song. Nashville-based co-producer Rob O’Block brought the demo to life with drum programming as well as guitar, bass and synths. The end result is best enjoyed while walking around solo on a beautiful afternoon (altered consciousness optional but recommended).

“Icarus” and now “No Beginning” are two tastes of JOSCH’s larger body of work, the forthcoming album he calls “Ethereality.” You may think you have a grasp on who JOSCH is as an artist; stay tuned to realize you thought wrong.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Drawing from a wide pool of inspirations ranging from funk, R&B and electronic music to soul, pop and lyrically-based folk music, electro soul artist Josh Schwartz, A.K.A. JOSCH (pronounced like ‘Josh’), spent the last two years touring North America with Zac Brown Band (on their 2022 “Out In The Middle” stadium tour) and rock and roll legends Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew (on their 2023 “Remain In Light” tour). He spent the previous decade touring internationally with indie funk band Turkuaz. As a baritone sax player and featured vocalist in all these settings, he has often been at home on the sidelines of the stage; now, with the birth of his solo project, JOSCH is ready to take center stage and share with the world even more of his creative contributions.
