“Josh Schwartz Assumes JOSCH Persona For Captivating Debut Single” (Live For Live Music)
Oct. 5, 2023 –– After making waves with his debut single “Icarus In Motion,” Miami-based electro-pop artist JOSCH follows up with a stunning music video for the song, shot and directed by Dani Barbieri of Two Truths Production, who has worked with artists including O.A.R., The Wood Brothers and Andy Frasco. The cinematic video, shot on Super 8mm film, weaves a vibrant psychedelic tale of a modern-day Icarus’s hedonistic rise and ultimate downfall due to his excessive pride and lust for pleasures of the flesh. We see JOSCH as Icarus washing up on the beach in embryonic cocoon-like state, evoking images of mythological origin stories. The video shows the Icarus’s rough upbringing as he lurks around the mean streets of Brooklyn (“you come from such humble beginnings / rough hands and dirty shoes / stranger to silver spoons”). Icarus’s meteoric rise becomes clear as his entourage, reminiscent of a 70’s sex cult, idolizes and performs mystical rituals on his nearly naked body in an ancient cemetery before engaging in a Dionysian feast, young, beautiful bodies intermingling and dripping with the sweet nectar of fruit and free-flowing wine (“the universe just keeps on giving / hungrily grasp for more / the endless spoils of war”). Throughout the video we see glimpses of Icarus soaring through the sky (“you soar on gilded wings / keep score with gods and kings”) only to then watch him plummet from such great heights (“as the sun destroys your wings / see the angels beckoning”). Finally, we see a lifeless Icarus being cast out to see on a golden bed by two golden goddesses in a scene inspired by cult-classic Mexican surrealist film “Magic Mountain.” The video is an exhilarating artistic journey from start to finish.
The music video was shot in Miami Beach as well as Brooklyn, NY, including all flying/falling through the clouds shots captured in front of the LED video walls at Volvox Labs in Greenpoint, NY. The video was edited by Ticking Clock Productions in NYC. While you’re getting a sneak peak, the video will officially be released to the world on Friday the 13th of October, a fitting day for such an eerie and mystical work of art!
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Drawing from a wide pool of inspirations ranging from funk, R&B and electronic music to soul, pop and lyrically-based folk music, electro-pop artist Josh Schwartz, A.K.A. JOSCH (pronounced like ‘Josh’), spent the last two years touring North America with Zac Brown Band (on their 2022 “Out In The Middle” stadium tour) and rock and roll legends Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew (on their 2023 “Remain In Light” tour). He spent the previous decade touring internationally with indie funk band Turkuaz. As a baritone sax player and featured vocalist in all these settings, he has often been at home on the sidelines of the stage; now, with the birth of his solo project, JOSCH is ready to take center stage and share even more of his creative contributions.
